The story: Tuesday’s Nov. 3 election is in the books. Arlington had no town races on the ballot, but residents helped pick a governor, a U.S. senator, a congressman and state lawmakers. Here’s who won, per unofficial results from the Tennessee Secretary of State. Nothing’s certified yet.

Governor: Republican Marsha Blackburn won with 957,136 votes (about 45.5%). Democrat Jerri Green had 902,953 (about 42.9%) and independent David Hatley had 195,564 (about 9.3%). Shelby County as a whole went for Green, with about 65%.

The amendments: All three passed. Each needed more YES votes than NO votes, plus YES votes totaling more than half of all votes cast for governor (about 1,051,000). They cleared both bars:

  • Amendment 1 (bail): 67% YES
  • Amendment 2 (no state property tax): 67% YES
  • Amendment 3 (victims’ rights): 76% YES

Need a refresher on what they do? Here’s our explainer.

U.S. Senate: Republican Bill Hagerty won with 1,138,436 votes (about 55.1%) over Democrat Marquita Bradshaw’s 886,974 (about 42.9%).

U.S. House, District 8: Arlington sits in the 8th District under the newly redrawn map, according to the Shelby County Election Commission’s precinct data. Republican David Kustoff won with 114,045 votes (about 51.6%). Democrat Heidi Kuhn had 102,406 (about 46.4%).

State Senate, District 31: This one’s only for part of town. Arlington is split between Senate Districts 31 and 32, and only District 31 was on the ballot. Republican Brent Taylor won with 38,004 votes (about 51.9%) over Democrat David Weatherspoon’s 35,234 (about 48.1%).

State House, District 99: Republican Tom Leatherwood won with 15,003 votes (about 63.4%). Independent William P. Mouzon had 8,655 (about 36.6%).

How Arlington’s precincts voted

The Election Commission reports results for Arlington’s two home precincts. They are 01-07, and 01-06, which also takes in small slices of Lakeland and unincorporated county. Together they leaned a bit redder than the state:

  • Governor: Blackburn 2,702 (51%), Green 2,074 (39%), Hatley 416 (8%)
  • U.S. Senate: Hagerty 3,065 (58%), Bradshaw 2,086 (40%)
  • U.S. House 8: Kustoff 3,019 (58%), Kuhn 2,115 (40%)
  • State House 99: Leatherwood 3,094 (63%), Mouzon 1,779 (36%)
  • Amendments: 74%, 74% and 83% YES

Turnout: 5,319 ballots from 11,397 registered voters in those two precincts, or about 47%. Countywide it was about 44% (257,109 of 585,373).

What’s next: The results still have to be certified, so the numbers could shift a little. Shelby County’s election-night totals don’t include provisional ballots yet.
