The story: Arlington has a new vice mayor. At Monday night’s (Nov. 2) Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting, the board elected Alderman Harry McKee as vice mayor. And in a night the Town called “relatively short,” every item passed unanimously.

The big development vote: The board approved a development agreement for Phase 2 of Summers Square, the commercial subdivision on the west side of Airline Road, north of Summers Road. Resolution 2026-39 lets Mayor Mike Wissman sign the agreement with Summers Square LLC. Phase 2 is the part of the project that includes the lot where 7 Brew has proposed a drive-thru coffee shop. (Catch up on the backstory in our preview.)

Also approved:

  • A new public comment policy. The Town says it formalizes current practices and gives staff and residents guidance for public comment periods. Translation: the ground rules for speaking up at meetings are now in writing.
  • An updated open records policy. It reflects recent staff changes and brings the policy in line with state requirements and allowances.
  • A bank switch. After a public hearing, the board passed the second and final reading of Ordinance 2026-09, which replaces First Citizens Bank with Park Bank as an official Town depository. The first reading passed Oct. 5.
  • Committee appointments. Several residents were appointed to new terms on local committees. The Town didn’t list names in its recap.

What’s next: Aldermen hold a business retreat Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at TownPlace Suites, 1425 W. Poplar Ave. in Collierville, to talk town projects, facilities, long-range plans and budgeting. The Town has said no votes will be taken there.
