Two road notes from the Town of Arlington before you head out this week. One closure is brand new, and one is a closure some drivers apparently wish were over already.

Walker Street: closed Wednesday, Nov. 4

A section of Walker Street will be closed to through traffic on Wednesday, Nov. 4, while crews repair a sewer line, the Town announced Tuesday.

  • Where: One block of Walker Street, between Greenlee Street and Jackson Street, according to the Town’s closure map.
  • Detour: Use Brown Street, which you can reach from either Greenlee Street or Jackson Street. Detour signs will be posted.
  • How long: The Town expects the work to wrap up by the end of the day Wednesday.

Summers Road: still closed (yes, really)

That shiny new asphalt on Summers Road isn’t open yet. The Town said Tuesday that Summers Road is still closed and remains an active construction zone, with contractors still on site.

The good news: the Town says it’s getting close and expects Summers Road to reopen “in the coming weeks.” No exact date yet.

The not-so-good news: the Town says some people have been moving barricades and driving through the closed area, which creates safety problems for workers and drivers alike. And those vehicles you’ve seen rolling on the new pavement? The Town says those are contractors, who are supposed to be there.

So leave the barricades where they are and keep using the posted detours until the road officially reopens. We’ll pass along the reopening date when the Town announces it.
